The Steamers repeated as division champs for the 2010-2011 season by taking the long road. After dropping the first game of the playoffs and getting sent to the loser’s bracket, the Steamers pulled off five straight wins, four of which were by a single goal, and one in overtime. The final two games against the Hudson Fire were won in front of a hostile crowd and we took the trophy home. And Hudson Fire fans, just in case you were wondering, yelling at the opposing goalie every time he touches the puck just motivates him. How’d that work out for ya? See game footage for details.

In other news, JT just edged out Gordo for the team lead in penalty minutes. Good job, rookie.

The Steamers grabbed the President’s Trophy and the number one seed in the playoffs following a 7-0-2 run to end the season. And JT still leads the team in penalty minutes. Playoffs start Monday night. Get your tickets early.

And did it with a .500 record by beating the Iceholes 3-1. Who knew we could get hot in the playoffs? Stats have been updated for the entire season. To celebrate, I give you yet another Hayden Panettiere kissing the Stanley Cup picture as well as Illustrated Whaler Girl (by Rob Ullman – robullman.com – go buy his books). Neither of the girls are happy with Russ for breaking the trophy ten minutes after getting our hands on it, but I guess we’ll take what we can get…

We are now on a two game unbeaten streak going into the final game of the regular season. And we have a chance to win and come in at .500, which pretty much puts us in line with how we’ve been playing all season (aka mediocre). So here is this chick Amy to get you excited for a possible playoff run.

Icegirl Julez
Despite terrible goaltending, the Steamers managed to beat one of the new teams in the division, Hudson Fire, by an old football standby score of 9-6. Julz (pictured here) was not impressed by either goalie.

In other news, the first four games of the season have been posted in on the schedule page. And there are rumors of new jerseys. Stay tuned.

hockey-lick.jpgWe’re back in the playoffs starting next week. We finished up the regular season strong last night with our second win in a row. Hopefully we can carry some of that momentum into the playoffs. And just for some motivation, if we win next week, these girls show up the second night. Stats are updated through the end of the regular season.

Hartford Whalers GirlAccording to our esteemed Captain, with our 4-2 win over the Turtles on Monday, we sewed up the tie breaker and made the playoffs. Guys named Steve never botch the math, so I am assuming this is a lock.

Monday night is the final game of the summer regular season. It’s early (8:20) and there will be grilled meats in the parking lot after, so come on out and wear your pink hats for big happy fan fun time.

In celebration of making our last regular season game meaningless, I give you Hailey, who brings meaning to the world by wearing a Hartford Whalers jersey. Best. Jersey. Ever.

Lego MountiesWe guaranteed ourselves at least a .500 record for the regular season by beating the Mounties 4-2 last Monday night, which was our second 4-2 victory in a row. This also put us in to third place in the division heading into the final two games against the top seeded teams.

Hayden Panettiere hugging the Stanley CupThe Steamers managed to lock up at least fourth place in their division, along with a playoff spot, by beating the Rampage 4-2 last Monday. And for once, I didn’t give up any goals in the third period. Really, what else could you ask for? Since the answer to that question is obvious, I posted another picture of Hayden Panettiere hugging the Stanley Cup. I heard she will hug me too if we win a few playoff games.
