Too bad for the team, I’m back from vacation, and in net again. And back to losing. Sounds like the guys played better while I was gone. At least they may offer to ship me back to Australia, and I probably wouldn’t turn it down. Stats are updated.

Per usual this season, last night we played only as well as the other team and managed another tie. That brings us to 3-5-5. Pretty ridiculous. But at least it was a comeback tie. And the other goalie actually showed up this week. But forgot his pads. Really?

In other news, our boy is all grown up. Chad brought beer for the first time in like three years. And actually drank one with us. It’s about time.

Lego MountiesWe guaranteed ourselves at least a .500 record for the regular season by beating the Mounties 4-2 last Monday night, which was our second 4-2 victory in a row. This also put us in to third place in the division heading into the final two games against the top seeded teams.

Hayden Panettiere hugging the Stanley CupThe Steamers managed to lock up at least fourth place in their division, along with a playoff spot, by beating the Rampage 4-2 last Monday. And for once, I didn’t give up any goals in the third period. Really, what else could you ask for? Since the answer to that question is obvious, I posted another picture of Hayden Panettiere hugging the Stanley Cup. I heard she will hug me too if we win a few playoff games.

Sinking SteamerOn Monday, the Steamers suffered a 0-3 loss to the Boston Brewers and let their season record sink down to 9-9-2. The team is still in the playoff hunt with only four games left to play. At least we didn’t give up four goals in the third period. That’s a nice change…

Goalie head kickFor the second week in a row now, this author has given up four goals in the third period. At least this week we managed to have a seven goal lead coming out of the second, so we did eventually pull off a win. It was an 8-4 win against the Badenovs, the first place team in the division, so I guess I shouldn’t be too bitter. I am however, tired of the collapsing late in the game.

Some might argue that the breakaways in the third might have been a little more common than usual. I might be one of those people. Some might also argue that it could have been worse, had I not, at least for this last game, started coming out to tackle some guys before getting schooled. Ken called it “aggressive.” That’s a good word for it. I call it “having a headache driving home.”

Ellen HoogMaybe next week we’ll decide to play for more than 30 minutes…

In other news, while writing this article, I googled the terms “hockey collapse” to try and find some appropriate graphics to stuff in the post and found this image of smokin’ hot Dutch field hockey player Ellen Hoog. So I figured I’d stuff her in the post too. Enjoy.

Ron HextallIn our first comeback win of the season, the Steamers beat the second place Brewers on Monday night. Even after yours truly gave up a goal from outside the blue line. Sort of reminded me of Ron Hextall. In contrast, on the “played well” side of the ice, the captain had five points.

In other news, a few more games have been added to the schedule, so get your tickets now.

Making of CBC "The Border"

In a game whose highlights included two different kinds of beer and Eric deliberately shooting pucks at referees, disaster was averted as the Steamers beat the Beachbums 4-2.

Emergency management officials were alerted after Russ scored his second goal of the night in the second period. Scientists have demonstrated over the past few years that if Russ pulls off a hat trick, the Earth would plunge into the Sun.

I finally got around to processing the pictures from a few weeks ago during the game where I was injured and didn’t play.

You can view them on my Flickr account, and if you want prints you can get them at MidwoodPhoto.com.
