Goalie head kickFor the second week in a row now, this author has given up four goals in the third period. At least this week we managed to have a seven goal lead coming out of the second, so we did eventually pull off a win. It was an 8-4 win against the Badenovs, the first place team in the division, so I guess I shouldn’t be too bitter. I am however, tired of the collapsing late in the game.

Some might argue that the breakaways in the third might have been a little more common than usual. I might be one of those people. Some might also argue that it could have been worse, had I not, at least for this last game, started coming out to tackle some guys before getting schooled. Ken called it “aggressive.” That’s a good word for it. I call it “having a headache driving home.”

Ellen HoogMaybe next week we’ll decide to play for more than 30 minutes…

In other news, while writing this article, I googled the terms “hockey collapse” to try and find some appropriate graphics to stuff in the post and found this image of smokin’ hot Dutch field hockey player Ellen Hoog. So I figured I’d stuff her in the post too. Enjoy.

Ron HextallIn our first comeback win of the season, the Steamers beat the second place Brewers on Monday night. Even after yours truly gave up a goal from outside the blue line. Sort of reminded me of Ron Hextall. In contrast, on the “played well” side of the ice, the captain had five points.

In other news, a few more games have been added to the schedule, so get your tickets now.

Making of CBC "The Border"

In a game whose highlights included two different kinds of beer and Eric deliberately shooting pucks at referees, disaster was averted as the Steamers beat the Beachbums 4-2.

Emergency management officials were alerted after Russ scored his second goal of the night in the second period. Scientists have demonstrated over the past few years that if Russ pulls off a hat trick, the Earth would plunge into the Sun.

This is really pretty entertaining. I’m not sure why I don’t take it upon myself to do things like this more often.

Sticks, they are sick. I cannot save breakaway. Point shot I save it very much. Breakaway, sticks are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from sticks. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.

I finally got around to processing the pictures from a few weeks ago during the game where I was injured and didn’t play.

You can view them on my Flickr account, and if you want prints you can get them at MidwoodPhoto.com.

The Steamers continued to improve their record, and remain undefeated against the Mounties of the Great White North this season, after posting a 3-2 win last night.

I finally had my first true “old man” injury. This weekend I completely destroyed my back moving a refrigerator out of my house. Luckily for the team, that means I won’t be able to give up five goals like I did last week. But I will be there to sit on the bench, take some pictures, and drink your beer.

In other news, stats for the first few games of the winter season have been updated.

Slovakia’s women’s ice hockey pummels Bulgaria 82-0

Seriously? No mercy rules in Slovakia?

We need to get Bulgaria in here to have an exhibition match against the Steamers. Might make us feel better about ourselves. Or maybe worse – they probably would beat us.

Hayden Panettiere is ridiculously hot and loves the taste of the Stanley Cup

Hayden Panettiere is ridiculously hot and loves the taste of the Stanley Cup

Wow. In celebration of our Frozen Four victory last night, I figured I’d post this ridiculously hot picture of Hayden Panettiere licking the Stanley Cup. Word is she will be licking the winners of our game next week, so that is some motivation for you.

We beat the Milford Fire last night 4-3. During the first two periods we pretty much smoked em like phillly blunts and were up 3-0, even though they were skating with 14 guys and we were only skating with 10 guys. Per usual, after that, we slowed down some, and let them back into the game.

A big thank you goes out to the guys who decided to start throwing punches with 24 seconds left. In our league, the clock runs during an altercation, so instead of a faceoff right in front of me with an extra skater, the clock ran out on them while one of their guys was trying to de-jersey Ken. Whatever, it’s a win against a rival team, and we were very pleased with ourselves.

Kudos to the fans that came out. And the goalie’s wife deserves extra credit for coming out and watching me almost botch it.

And kudos to Russ. For the first time ever, Eric had nothing to say about him except that “Russ did everything right tonight and will be allowed back next season.” Russ scored a goal, did not trip over the blue line, brought 36 cans of PBR to the game, and actually stayed to completely drink a few after. Good show.

Next game is Monday night at 8:50pm. I haven’t heard who won the other Frozen Four game, so I don’t know who we’re playing yet.
